Vaccination progress

To date, more than 78% of eligible Canadians have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and more than 47% are fully vaccinated, making Canada a world leader in COVID-19 vaccinations! We will continue to bring in millions of vaccines including over 3.5 million doses more this week, and by the end of the summer, all Canadians who want to be fully vaccinated will have received a vaccine.

I would like to thank all the frontline healthcare workers in Vimy and across Quebec for their continuous efforts and hard work to keep us safe from COVID-19. They are truly our heroes and we could not have gone through this pandemic without them.

231,000 new jobs!

Last Friday, Statistics Canada reported that Canada’s labour market gained 231,000 jobs in June, bringing us within 340,100 of our target of 1 million jobs, restoring employment to previous levels. While this is encouraging news, we still have much work to do.

Budget 2021 is our plan to extend supports to those who need them most and help our economy come back stronger than ever before. It includes maintaining flexible access to EI benefits for another year, fulfilling our campaign promise to extend EI Sickness Benefits from 15 to 26 weeks, and supporting businesses to hire new workers and increase workers’ hours or wages with the new Canada Recovery Hiring Program.

Canadians expect us to work together to grow our economy, create jobs, and build back a better Canada – and we won’t stop until the job’s done.

Laval Ragweed Campaign

The City is launching its ragweed campaign through a video that invites Laval residents to pull up ragweed plants on their properties and along their streets before August 1. Laval conducts an annual ragweed control program to improve the quality of life of its citizens, whose cooperation is essential to remove ragweed plants before they bloom.

By eliminating these plants before August, we prevent them from releasing their pollen and thus help reduce the symptoms of allergic Laval residents.

European Travel

Canada is on the list of countries exempted from restrictions on non-essential travel to the EU, otherwise known as the Green List. As such, EU Member States should allow non-essential Canadian travellers to travel into the EU, vaccinated or not. However, the Green List is not legally-binding, and the final decision remains with the country of entry.

The EU Digital COVID Certificate is not required for entry into the EU and simply facilitates travel within the EU. The intended holders are EU citizens and residents, not necessarily non-EU travellers. Non-EU travellers may be issued an EU Digital COVID Certificate if the country of entry decides that they meet the criteria of: being vaccinated; having a recent negative PCR test; or having recovered from COVID.

If the vaccine is approved by the European Medical Association, then the Member State should accept it. If it is approved by the World Health Organization (such as AstraZeneca CoviShield), then the MS can accept. However, the final word rests with the Member State.

The European Council makes recommendations on COVID−19 travel measures in the EU, but EU member states make their own determination of who they allow to enter.

Canadian travellers should consult the diplomatic mission in Canada of their EU country of destination to confirm entry criteria.
