COVID-19 Update

Good news! Starting today, Laval is becoming an orange zone, meaning that sanitary restrictions have been loosened. Please click here to see the most up-to-date public health guidelines applicable for Laval.

In addition to this, the Quebec government has announced that everyone who wishes to bring forward their appointment for their second dose can begin doing so today. This will be done through the ClicSanté portal, and the calendar of eligibility to do so can be found below.

Pride Month

June marks the start of Pride Season, a time to celebrate the resiliency and spirit of LGBTQ2 individuals and communities in Canada and across the world. Although Pride celebrations will look different this year due to the ongoing pandemic, Pride Season remains an important time to reflect on the history of Pride as a protest against violence on LGBTQ2 people, as a celebration of strength and solidarity, and as a call to action for the work that remains to advance LGBTQ2 rights around the world.

Together, let’s stand against discrimination, violence, and oppression and join virtually in promoting acceptance, diversity, inclusion and love.

UPC Public Consultations

Laval is announcing an extension of the deadline for submitting a brief as part of the public consultation on the draft urban planning code (UPC). Citizens and organizations will have two additional weeks, until June 28, 2021, to send their comments in order to improve the final version of the CDU.

Citizens and organizations are also invited, upon registration, to make oral submissions and comments at virtual public hearings to be held the week of June 14, 2021.

New hiring program for Canada's economic recovery

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade announced that the new Canada Recovery Hiring Program, will be available retroactively to June 6, 2021. Eligible employers would be able to access support through the CRA, which would be available after Bill C-30 receives Royal Assent.

The Canada Recovery Hiring Program will help hard-hit businesses hire the workers they need to recover and grow, and to do so at a pace that works for them, as different jurisdictions open at different paces. It provides eligible employers who have experienced a qualifying revenue decline with a subsidy of up to 50 per cent of eligible salary or wages so they can hire more workers, increase workers’ hours, or increase wages.
