COVID-19 Update

The third wave is upon us, and it is an entirely new pandemic with a deadlier, more contagious virus. Laval remains a red zone, and all public health measures remain in force even for those who have been vaccinated.

Canada is now third in the G20 for vaccine doses administered per capita. Quebec is the highest-performing province in the country, with almost 1/3 of Quebecers having received one shot. Premier Legault has promised that all Quebecers will receive their first shot by June 24th, and the federal government will continue to secure vaccine doses to make sure that this goal is met.

Vaccination is now open to anyone aged 60 and up, as well as those 60 years and under who have chronic medical conditions or who are essential workers.  For more information on vaccine eligibility and how to make an appointment, please click here.

Bold Climate Action

Last week, at the Leaders’ Summit on Climate, the Prime Minister announced that we will be raising our emissions target from 30% below 2005 levels to 40-45% by 2030Together we will continue to take action in the fight against climate change and secure a better future for our children and grandchildren.

The Prime Minister also announced that Canada will be collaborating with the United States to set common “greening” government goals to support the work underway by countries to meet their commitments under the Paris Agreement. Canada is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, and we look forward to working with the United States and other countries to achieve our collective sustainability goals.

Summer Day Camps

The city of Laval's regular day camps welcome children aged 6 to 12 who live in the Laval area. The children are cared for by qualified staff who are certified DAFA (Diplôme d'aptitude aux fonctions d'animateur). In addition, each employee has an up-to-date emergency first aid certification (first aid with RDR-DEA). The groups are made up of 15 children and 1 instructor.

A diversified program is prepared by the staff throughout the summer. The program consists of cultural, sports, cooperative and aquatic activities. The youth will also be invited to follow an intrigue throughout the summer that will allow them to stimulate their creativity and imagination.

The city will offer regular day camps this year from June 28 to August 13, and registration begins on April 28th at 12pm. For more information and to register your child, please click here.

For travellers

As of April 23, 2021, all travelers entering Canada will be required to complete the second arrival screening test on day 8 after arrival, instead of day 10. Moving to day 8 will allow for identification of positive cases and more rapid sequencing of variants of concern. The Public Health Agency of Canada is working with Switch Health, the kit provider, and our partners in the federal government to improve access to registration for kits, telehealth services and mail service for Day 1 and Day 8 testing.

The testing requirements for all international travellers, in addition to other measures, including the 14-day quarantine, are essential to protect Canadians. Variants of COVID-19 have been reported in all provinces, so we must remain vigilant to prevent further travel-related cases.
